There was a city once

Izborsk, Russia

The Izborsk fortress has been erected in the 11th century by Krivichs, the Slavic people who inhabited the Northwesten part of ancient Russia (and who had became part of Russian nation when Izborsk, along with the whole Pskov region, has been acquired by the Great Princedom of Moscow in 1510.) It is located some 25 km from Russian-Estonian border into Russian mainland (Pskov Region of Russia.) Now it is surrounded by several villages and townships, as it was in the 11th-15th centuries; only the fortress itself is not populated anymore.
